Mules' thoughts and reflections about the Prologue to the book, A Long Way From Chicago by Richard Peck.

 

 

 

I think the prologue was just a plain introduction so I really did not like it.  What do you think about it? N.H.

 

I agree with N.H. I think it just kind of went in to the chapter. Do you agree? M.B. 

 

I agree with you M.B. and N.H.. The prolougue was just terrible.  It was so boring. My eyes almost started to bore themselves.D.C.

 

 

The prologue can give background information to a story or book.  I agree that sometimes the background information could be given in the first chapter of a book.  Mrs. Lowe

 

Why do you think that they called a bathroom a “Privy” instead of bathroom?

K.S.;I think they called the bathroom a privy because, that meant they wanted privacy. D.C.

 

Well K.S. is because it is just their language , they would think tolit sounded weird! I think that grandma is hlarious and just does what she feels like doing.  This book is good if you get the concept right. I have a question for you and here it is: What would you do if you were Ernie's dad , and you found out that he snuck inside a house,blew up a mailbox and exploded a window?  I like the book and I hope you do too! : )K.G.

I do not know why but I do know that a lot of things like privy has changed. I also now that privy means toilet. So I think it is an outhouse.   L.H.

 

 

What do you think the reason Grandma through a cherry bomb when Ernie and his brothers broke in?  L.H.

 

 

I'm not really sure why but I think it was to scare Ernie and his brothers. N.H.

 

I think they called their bathroom a "privy" because I think that is what they called their bathrooms in their time. N.H.   

 

 Maybe we should research the word, "privy" and perhaps find other definitions of the word as well.  Mrs. Lowe

At first when I read the word “Privy” I didn’t know what it was. What did you think it was when you first read it? At first I didn’t understand the book, but now I am getting it.C.F.

 

If I was Mr.Cowgill I would spank them for sure.  I wouldn't let them out of my sight, ground them, and make them work to pay for the damage they had done.N.H.

 

 

When I first read the word privy I had guessed it would be a bathroom becuase I didn't think they would have bathrooms back then and I thought they would just have an outhouse.  Outhouses are kind of like privys.N.H.

 

When you read the prologue, what did you think the book was going to be about?  I thought it was just about a boy and his sister visiting their grandmother, I had no idea it was going to be so, so, well exiting!N.H.

  Yes, I think Mary Alice was right when she said Grandma was a bad influence.  I think she was right because, Grandma does bad things.  Like drinking beer and disobeying the law. D.C.

No I don't think that Mary Alice will kill it because I think it is too fast for her and because I think she will just want to stay away from it. N.H.

 

 I agree with D.C., and N.H., that grandma breaks to many laws.  She is the worst grandma I have ever heard of. Who agrees with me?  K.S.
