 Shotgun Cheatum's Last Night Above Ground

Class Discussion

What did grandma mean when she said that Effie Wilcox's tongue was attached in the middle and flapped at both ends?

Do you think it is weird that Grandma told the reporter that Shotgun Cheathum will be spending his last night in Grandma's front room? L.H.

I do not think that it was weird that she made it up but Shotgun… no way!!!!!!!!!! I would not have offered him or that other woman a beer.  I would not even have drunken one of them, because they just ended up some drunken bunch of hoots.  What would have done if you were Mary Alice?  K.S.

I think grandma meant Effie Wilcox talked, gossiped,etc. to much. Grandma is always talking about that old talkative lady. It is obvious.  K.G.   ;  }

I agree with K.G. that Grandma meant Effie talked and lied and told stories a lot. N.H.

If I were Mary Alice I would not have drank the beer. N.H.

I do think it was weird that Grandma said she would have Shotgun's body in her house.  I would never do that! N.H.

I thought this chapter was unusual, what is your opinoin? N.H.

N.H. the opion I wave on this chapter is weird too.  I mean I didn't get why this chapter skipped back and fourth so much. D.C.

I think it was very unusual, I have no idea why grandma gossiping about Effie Wilcox. M.B.

Yes, L.H., I did think it was weird that Grandma told the reporter that Shotgun Cheatham will be spending his last night above ground in her front room, because after I read that I was wondering '' What does that mean?" then I found out that she had him in his coffin in her front room. Yeah, I thought that was really weird. C.F.

I also agree with K.G. because she was always talking about something going on down at the coffee shop or something. C.F.

Yes N.H. I think this chapter was unusual too. Because who would bring a dead person, by the name of Shotgun Cheatham, into their home, in his coffin. Oh, I know who would, a crazy little old person named Grandma Dowdel! C.F.

What did you think about Grandma bringing Shotgun into her house when he was dead? C.F.

When I read that Grandma took Shotgun in her house when ever he was dead I was grossed out.  I mean that is straight gross.  I wouldn't care I knew him or not that's nasty!!!!!!!!D.C.

D.C I agree with you that it was just gross.I mean why would grandma bring Shotgun in her house when he was dead. A.Y
