The Phantom Brakeman Discussions

What are some of the changes we have seen in Mary Alice and Joe?  Use some details from the story to support your answer.

We think Mary Alice & Joe have not only changed in age but has changed in activities. Mary Alice has chaged in age because at the begging of the book she was 7 and now close to the end of the book she is 11.  Mary Alice has chanded her activities because, at the start of the book she loved to jumprope.  But now she dosn't want to jumprope she wants to tapdance.  

Joe has changed in age and activities too. He has changed in age because at the begging of the book he was 9 and now at the end of the book he is 13.  He has also changed in activities because, he liked to solve puzzles but now he likes to go to the Coffee Pot. D.C. AND K.G.

I agree with D.C and K.G that Mary Alice and Joe changed in there age, but they also changed about how they felt about grandma because at the begging of the book they did not want to go to grandmas, but now they love being over their. A.Y

Joe has changed by turning 13. One funny part in this chapter was when Grandma said she didn't like Nehi because it gave her gas. I just thought that was hilarious!!!!!C.F.

Why would Miz Eubanks put a straw hat on a mule? That is really weird and MEAN! L.H.

Well  L.H. when I read that Miz Eubanks put a straw hat on the donkey I thought she crazy! I mean would somebody you know have done that?D.C.

Since Joe[joey] is getting older he is getting stressed at Mary Alice and the point that she won't leave the house without her tap shoes. M.B

Mary Alice and Joe have gotten older and they have also gotten closer to their grandmother.  Like now they are not as afraid to talk to their grandmother as they used to be.  They are also growing up because Joey now wants to be a man and Mary Alice is also changing her ways. N.H.

One way that Mary Alice has changed by her activities is, first she liked jump rope, now she likes tap dancing. Then she says she has a puppy in her room that she found in the cob house, she said she named his Skipper. But according to the people of the town she has Vandalia Eubanks in her room. So far this is my favorite chapter of all!!!!C.F.
